Mazda Autokhana 2010 with Motorsport Channel, Bermaz and Goodyear

We had the opportunity to go up to Genting with the Goodyear Drift team to organize a small autokhana session with the Mazda Owner’s Club, a yearly event that was organized this time around with the support from Motorsport Channel, Bermaz as well as Goodyear Malaysia. An event for amateur drivers featuring the handling prowess of the RX-8 car, it was also an opportunity for Goodyear to showcase the effectiveness of its Eagle F1 Asymmetric tire which was fitted on the 2009 facelift RX-8 demo car.

The simple roadcourse was laid out on one of Genting’s many parking lots and apparently, it was simple to GRA drivers Mike and Ariff. Being first-timers to the autokhana sport, we had MANY off-course runs during the setup of the track!

Before the drivers had a chance to hit the track though, they had to attend a briefing by Ariff regarding the two new Goodyear tires; the durable Excellence and the range-topping Eagle F1 Asymmetric. Ariff also introduced the new driver lineup for Goddyear’s Drift team, consisting of old boy Michael Gan, Jane, Ariff and new team member Loyai replacing Johan Norman. The club also gained first-hand knowledge of Bermaz’ plans to bring in the award-winning Mazda 2 and the *koff* MPS3 *koff*

Of course, the drivers were hesitant at first to actually participate in the autokhana, so a few runs with the demo car piqued their interest. With about 14 participants, the drivers were first briefed on the dos and don’ts as well as the importance of tire choice and pressure. After a few runs, it was clear that the balance of the RX-8 allowed even first-timer drivers to come close to the time set by Ariff in the demo car. The biggest surprise however came not from a rotary, but from a Mazda Lantis whose driver showed off how an autokhana track should be driven, complete with handbrake donuts!

The champion of the day however was Dennis Woo in a Goodyear Eagle RS-Sport equipped RX-8! The top three winners also went home with two Goodyear tires and cash prizes too, congratulations!

Super GT 2009: Action-Packed Sunday + GT Queens!

The Convoy

As we have shown yesterday, we hitched on a ride with a convoy of 180 performance rides, ranging from Caldinas, S15s, 350zs to Evos, Integras as well as Subarus. Here are more shots of the event, as well as its gallery.

The Mall

When we arrived at the track, another group from the JSOC (Japanese Supercar Owners Club) have already booked their places in the circuit’s mall. They range from cars with cool GT-like bodykits with widebody conversions being commonplace and rims with lips deeper than your pail, they certainly were an attraction, like these few cars.

Of course it’s not a Soarer, the hood’s too long! This Supra owner has gone to great lengths to make his car a standout.

The Pitwalk

When the time for the pitwalk came, we were already burning from the midday heat. Ironically, it was drizzling for quite sometime not even an hour ago! As you can see from the album, the teams were making last-minute adjustments to their cars, making them perfect for the race. The Motul/Autech GT-R was having problems of it’s own though. They wouldn’t let us get close

The Action

Time for the race to happen! The crowd was awfully responsive, and every time the drivers started their engines, the whole grandstand would stand up on their feet and cheer. Nothing like Malaysian spirit! After playing the Negaraku and the Kimigayo, members of the GT Club were invited along with a skeleton crew onto the main straight – something which we missed because;

1) We were not capable of affording GT Club passes (or even procuring them!)

2) We did not manage to secure a Press pass Hopefully, we would be able to fulfill you with better images next year!

The eventual winner, the TOMICA Ebbro GT-R which started on the pole position itself.

Hey! Dorifto King Keiichi Tsuchiya was seen hanging around the pre-race area. What was he doing, looking at his other competitors? :p

The gaijin drivers’ club was spotted hanging out on their own. Hey, racing can be a friendly sport, as shown by the drivers’ camaraderie.

How can we forget them! The lovely ladies which are all flown from Japan (plus some local ones too!). We won’t say much, enjoy the images!!!

Events; Xtreme International Autoshow: Paid Attractions Part 2

This Mini pickup was quite a sight to behold. (Shamefully we don't know the exact model, but its most probably a Mark 4 pickup truck)

After bringing you the first part of the paid segment of the show, let’s continue onto the second segment! Continuing where we left off, the packed VIP-style area quickly led to a very quiet corner of the Stadium Putra; only a few cars were displayed in the nook and crannies leading to the actual badminton courts. The place was rather chilly at this point and coupled with the dim lighting, made for a seram experience!

Together with it was the original Mini Cooper, which we still love (and prefer) over the BMW Mini...go-kart handling FTW!

The missus loves this MyVI. God knows why, but good detail on those flames!

As we head to the main show floor, located at the stadium floor, we spotted a personality that’s so arresting, we had to stop by just to snap a pic! Helloooooo Big Daddy!

On the main show floor, there were many rides which clamoured for our attention, including this 350Z with a homage to the previous JGTC Calsonic Skyline livery

The plate says it all; this bodykit club has made a cool Bimmer, but can it go fast? Only the owner knows!

Events; Xtreme International Autoshow: Paid Attractions Part 1

The Jakarta Monster itself - its actually an Isuzu Trooper modified to look like a Hummer, complete with tons of ICE to back it up. Come to think about it, there was another Isuzu Trooper that was being facelifted to look like a Hummer in Sunway a few weeks back....Hmmmmm

Of course, what were you wondering? Our coverage of the Xtreme International Autoshow is not over yet! In this post, we’re going to feature all the rides that were in the stadium, after the ticketing counter (RM25 on the spot, RM28 if purchased at any Axcess outlets). As promised, there was the Jakarta Monster, Thai super lowriders with hydraulics as well as a couple more exotic bodykits on display, but having said that, and being there on a Saturday evening, we did not see the so-called two-headed mini nor the Porsche 928 hotrod. If someone has pictures of them cars, do let us know! More goodies when you click the link!

Slammed and wide-bodied Jazz....Thai owners really take their rides to the extremes, but yet, they are still streetable!

His interior is not left untouched, either. Anyhow, it would be a nightmare to be surrounded by nothing but fiberglass, meters and (admittedly, a tacky) shiny paintjob.

Okay, its a Yaris, its pink, and its slammed. I can't think of anything else to say bout it though....

Ah, the perennial Toyota-bashing favorite. I must say though in its defense, that the mods on this particular one is much more palatable. And the fact that its not a dugong, perhaps.

We truly apologize for this picture. We cant even see what engine it is, thanks to the chromed parts that threw the camera's focus right off the charts! BTW, a turbo that high is not only for the go, its kinda cool to look at too.

Events; Xtreme International Autoshow: The Parking Lot Rides

Anime-fied Kancil is rather cute...we wish someone had a Pokemon reference somewhere!

Held at Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil, the Xtreme International Autoshow is said to be Malaysia’s largest yet, and although it seemed to be more like a collection of bodykitted cars, we bring you the first part of this mind-blowing carbon-fibred, custom collection extravaganza. Here are some of the modified machines that we saw outside the paid venue. Most people would pass this unique collection of vehicles off and head for what’s in store for them, but as true petrolheads, every ride is also important (unless your car appears to be stock in this show! ). More rides after the jump!

Besides cars, there were also showgirls patrolling the grounds near the entrance, particularly near the Caldina Club Malaysia area

Bimmers were also present at the show; this particular one, among others were from the UDM Owner's Club

Events; Full Throttle Autoshow Melaka

Auto Showdown participants. All 3 of them?

As promised, we dropped by the Full Throttle Autoshow which was held in Melaka last weekend (technically its still on till 12am today) and immediately ecnountered terrible traffic out of KL via the Sungai Besi toll all the way to after Nilai Memorial Park. The same heavy crawl was encountered at the Ayer Keroh exit as well, no thanks to so-called Datok Shah Rukh Khan who held a concert somewhere in the city. Anyways, since MITC is located in Ayer Keroh itself, somewhere near Zoo Melaka, the journey there was smooth.

After arriving to find that the show was cordoned off using tarpaulin (which means its a paid show), and finding ample parking spaces in the small carpark opposite the area, and at the hotel, we proceeded to the gates to splash out RM15 per entry. It seemed that the parking lot itself was a huge clue to the event’s attractiveness. Other than the sounds of squealing tires and loud music from the PA system, there was nothing that made this edition of Full Auto to stand out, at least when we were there at four to six PM on Saturday.

There were a couple of booths here and there, mainly by sponsors such as Falken, Marlboro and other local aftermarket tuning companies, but there were hardly any competitors for the Auto Showdown, no girls to look at and no sign of the breakdancers. Even if its four in the afternoon, give us some entertainment! Anyhow, I headed to the drifting arena and the pits, checking out the tire marks those sideways people had laid down.

Eventually, I stopped at the drift podium to catch up with Ariff and Jane as well as Wanbra. Crazy commentating as usual from Wanbra as drifters lit up the track even when it started to rain. Afterall, a wet track equals more excitement and more tire-savings! It seemed that spectators at the show were only interested in the drfting action, leaving most of the booths empty when we got there. Cool moves from all the participants during the practice runs will definitely ensure a great outing today. If it’s possible, we’ll try updating you with the winner’s list soon.

So that’s all the time we had at the Full Throttle Autoshow in Melaka. While it wasn’t an entirely fruitful trip, relying on the drift event alone makes for a very…….unjustified RM15 entry. Hopefully other autoshows charging entrance fees would learn from this mistake.

Edit = Yeah, I know I promised you guys a post on Sunday night, but due to ISP problems (Izzi, not Streamyx), it appears to be delayed. Apologies to the 70 people who were paitiently waiting for this to come up on Sunday night.
